The Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed District (RPBCWD), Nine Mile Creek Watershed District (NMCWD), the City of Eden Prairie, and the City of Minnetonka are hosting a joint workshop on aquatic invasive species (AIS) on May 8th, 2014 beginning at 6pm at the Minnetonka Community Center.
Guest speakers Steve McComas (Blue Water Science) and Cheryl Culbreth (Landscape Restoration) will be presenting information about the common invasive plant and animal species that can found in and around area lakes and ponds, as well as highlight some of the new and emerging AIS threats in Minnesota. The workshop will cover AIS threats such as zebra mussels, carp, curly leaf pondweed, eurasian watermilfoil, buckthorn, and purple loosestrife.
Come and hear more about how to identify these aquatic invaders, find out if preventative measures work, and what control options are available to manage AIS. Learn more about what’s being done at both the local and statewide level to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species in local waters.
