North Lotus Lake Park Water Quality Improvement Project
Background
Lotus Lake is impaired for nutrients, primarily total phosphorus (TP). This project was identifed as one of five projects in the Lotus Lake Water Quality Improvement Project needed to achieve a reduction in TP as outline in the Lower Minnesota River Watershed TMDL: Part II (MPCA 2020).
Project staff hosted an open house for the public on November 2, 2024, to provide input on preliminary concepts for a water quality improvement project. Attendees were also asked to contribute their ideas for the next round of preliminary concepts. Couldn't make it? View the open house exhibits. See below on how you can provide input on the current concepts.
Overview
The vision for this project is to create a space that improves Lotus Lake water quality while enhancing park visitor experience. Project benefits include:
- Improve water quality of Lotus Lake
- Promote diverse vegetation and soil health
- Offer visitors a unique experience
The project area is located on the eastern side of the park in the large open grassy area between the tennis court and the woods.
Preliminary Concepts
Two preliminary concepts have been developed so far. Additional concepts will be developed based upon feedback and will be shared in the future to collect more input.
Click the concept images below for a larger view. Fill out a survey to provide your input on this first round of preliminary concepts (a link to this survey is also located in the "Provide Input" section of this webpage.)
