How long have you lived in the watershed district?

I have lived and been an active member of the Chanhassen community since 1987, over 37 years ago.

Why were you interested in becoming a manager?

I became aware of the District in 2015 while attending a lecture on a carp study being conducted by Dr. Sorensen. I was fascinated by his findings and was impressed with the resources and effectiveness of the District. It inspired me to participate in local shoreland restoration projects and to join the Citizen’s Advisory Committee. I am excited by the mission of the District as I care deeply about water quality. I feel that my skill set would be an asset to the Board and would add a perspective that is based in science, public service, and a broad environmental background.

What is your background?

I’m a licensed professional Civil/Environmental Engineer with over 35 years of experience in the environmental field. I recently retired from my role as a Principal Engineer at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, where I was the Lead Policy and Technical Expert.

I have decades of experience reviewing engineering proposals, variance requests, applications and studies. I’ve learned to make thoughtful, innovative and defensible decisions. I value my relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work hard to listen, and communicate that I’ve heard everyone’s thoughts, considered all options, and provided a response that achieves the best available outcome.

What is your favorite outdoor spot in the District?

I appreciate all the lakes and trails in the District. My favorite place is Lotus Lake where I swim, paddle and fish.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Being outside, observing and enjoying nature - whether it be paddling out to a good location for a swim in Lotus Lake, whitewater kayaking, bird-watching, or collecting rocks. I love to bike with the Merlin app running, so I can identify birds I’m hearing during the ride.

What District work are you most proud of? I’m proud that the District is willing to look for creative solutions to enhance watershed projects. One current example is the City of Chanhassen’s Downtown Regional Stormwater plan that includes a regional reuse system, an infiltration basin, and two biofiltration basins.

In addition to protecting/enhancing water resources, what are you most passionate about?

I am an enthusiastic participant in community theater and singing in our church praise band.
